It’s Toast Coffeehouse, but to go.
And only to go.
Toast founder Terence Scarlatos of East Setauket is getting set to open his first-ever Toast Coffeehouse Express Cafe in a prominent office building in Holbrook.
He’s partnering with Toast’s director of operations, Allen Boulos, also of East Setauket. Toast Express will be located in the sun-splashed lobby of 4250 Veterans Highway near Johnson Avenue in Holbrook, across from the MacArthur Airport entrance.
It will be decked out in a vintage newspaper theme — or a “Newsie” theme, as Scarlatos describes. The new Toast will mostly service the four-story building’s 500-plus workers, but it is open to the general public.
Matt Fox, an Allstate Agency owner in the building, said just seeing the Toast logo appear one day on a sandwich board at the vacated café space created a buzz throughout the building.
Fox is especially excited.
“I go to the Patchogue Toast all the time,” he said. “The food is amazing. They’ve got stuff you can’t get anywhere else, and it’s always quality stuff. I spend about 52 hours a week in this building and I need food; I gotta eat. That’s it. And I’ve got anywhere from eight to 10 people in my office that need to eat too. And everyone knows Toast.”
The 800-square-foot space opens Friday, May 17, at 8 a.m. Toast will be serving espresso drinks and other specialty drinks, along with several fan favorites from its popular Port Jeff, Patchogue and Bay Shore locations.
Those menu items include the Bayou Flat, Portabella Panini, Southwest Turkey Wrap and the Brooklyn Chicken Sandwich. They will also be unveiling a special Avocado Toast menu.
“Our goal is really to make everything homemade, whether it’s made first at one of our restaurants or on-premises,” Scarlatos said. “It’s going to be a faster version of homemade cooking; not fast food. That’s going to be the trick, figuring out how to do this stuff fast.”
Scarlatos explained that, typically, a restaurant order takes about 12 to 15 minutes to prepare.
“Now we’re looking at about five minutes in an express setting,” he said.
IF YOU GO
Toast Coffeehouse Express Cafe will be open from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m., Monday-Friday. It’s located in the back of the building at 4250 Veterans Highway, just east of Johnson Avenue, on the border of Holbrook and Bohemia.
The cafe is accessible from both the lobby’s rear and front entrances. Toast Express will also be delivering through Door Dash and Chow Now.
There is seating outdoors, as well as in the building’s lobby.
