First Huntington Lighthouse tour happens this Sunday, with more to follow

|

The Huntington Lighthouse Preservation Society is kicking off the 2024 summer season with the first of many boat rides to the island landmark in Huntington Bay.

The first tour happens Sunday, June 2, with more planned for later this summer.

According to the group’s website, the Preservation Society, formerly Save Huntington’s Lighthouse, Inc., “was formed in 1985 by concerned citizens to prevent the tear down and demolition of the Lloyd Harbor Light Station and its replacement with an automated light tower by the United States Coast Guard.”

The ride is a quick one from land, and once there, locals and tourists alike get to learn all about the lighthouse’s history and how it was saved from demolition by the volunteers.

The tours last about an hour and push off from the town’s Goldstar Batallion Beach on West Shore Road.
