First look: Uncle Giuseppe’s gets ready to open massive Greenvale market this week

Uncle Giuseppe’s Marketplace is just days away from opening its newest Long Island location — and Greater Long Island got an early look inside.

A GLI photographer visited the specialty grocer’s new Greenvale market at Wheatley Plaza this week as crews put the finishing touches on the store ahead of its grand opening Friday, Aug. 14.

The new market, located at 130 Wheatley Plaza, will officially welcome customers following an 11 a.m. ribbon-cutting ceremony.

Inside, shoppers can expect the full Uncle Giuseppe’s experience the locally owned grocer has become known for, with expansive displays of fresh produce, meats, seafood, prepared foods and Italian specialties throughout the sprawling new space.

The market also features Uncle Giuseppe’s staples such as fresh mozzarella, handmade pasta, an in-house bakery, butcher counter and an extensive selection of ready-to-eat dishes.

“Our new Greenvale store is coming together, and we’re putting the finishing touches on everything before opening our doors on Friday, August 14th,” the company said ahead of the opening.

Greenvale will become Uncle Giuseppe’s 13th location and one of its largest stores to date.

The new market is expected to create approximately 250 jobs as the company continues a broader expansion throughout the Northeast.

Uncle Giuseppe’s is still hiring for the Greenvale store, with speed-hiring interviews being held Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. at its hiring trailer at Wheatley Plaza.

The company previously said it plans to hire about 1,000 additional employees over the next 12 months as it adds new stores and fills positions across its existing markets.

Uncle Giuseppe’s traces its roots to a family produce business before opening its first marketplace in East Meadow in 2001.

Over the past 25 years, the company has grown its following by blending the feel of a traditional Italian specialty market with a full-service supermarket.

And Greenvale isn’t the end of the expansion. Uncle Giuseppe’s already has additional locations in the works, including a future location in Levittown.

For now, all eyes are on Greenvale.
