Five Below opening location in East Setauket this summer

|

Five Below is bringing its low-cost products to East Setauket.

The Philadelphia-based retail chain is planning to open on July 1 at Suffolk Plaza shopping center, according to a sign on the building at 4054 Nesconset Highway.

The entire anchor store space, which once housed a Waldbaum’s grocery store, was split in two last year with the western portion of the square footage to become the future home of Amazon Fresh.

The property has been vacant since Waldbaums closed down over six years ago. Plans for a 24 Hour Fitness center to occupy the vacant site fell through after the pandemic hit and the company filed for bankruptcy.

Amazon is taking up 37,000-square-feet of the new space, while Five Below will occupy around 20,000-square-feet of the adjacent storefront.

The first Five Below location opened in Pennsylvania in 2002 and the company went public 10 years later. The retailer promises the trendiest, must-have products at low prices. There are currently over 1,200 Five Below stores in 40 states.

Last summer an expeditor working on the project went before the Brookhaven Town Planning Board to apply for a facade change for the stores’ signage and EV charging stations.

Calls to Five Below corporate for comment on this story were not returned.
