Flooding strikes Stony Brook University campus; no patient care disruptions

|

The Stony Brook University campus wasn’t spared from the overnight flooding that wreaked havoc across the hamlet and beyond, collapsing roads and prompting evacuations.

Several areas of the university campus have been “affected” by the flooding, a spokesperson said.

However, she stressed, Stony Brook University Hospital and the Long Island State Veterans Home “are open and operating under regular schedules with no disruption to patient care.”

New arrivals were expected to start moving in on campus Monday.

“In consideration of the forecast and in the interest of safety, the residential student check-ins scheduled for today have been canceled,” reads a statement. “The safety of the entire campus community is our top priority and we are working as quickly and as thoroughly as possible to assess the situation and are committed to minimizing disruptions for students who we are looking forward to welcoming to campus as soon as possible.

“We will continue to provide updates throughout the day.”
