Floor & Decor moving into old Kmart space in Sayville Plaza in Bohemia

Floor & Decor goes by the slogan, “You Have To See It To Believe It.”

That just be what it takes to believe that the hard surface flooring retailer is setting up shop in the very porous Sayville Plaza in Bohemia.

Floor & Decor, with a building permit in hand from Islip Town, has started construction inside the shuttered Kmart near the west end of the once bustling shopping center.

An Islip spokeswoman confirmed that the town issued a permit in March to Floor & Decor to begin transforming the vacant spot.

With locations across the United States, including a popular one in Huntington, Floor & Decor offers homeowners and contractors equal access to its store selection at warehouse prices. The Atlanta-based chain was founded in 2000.

Kmart closed early in 2020, leaving behind a wasteland of sorts at Sayville Plaza. Pier 1 Imports, Borders Bookstore, Sports Authority, Modell’s and Babies “R” Us all once thrived in the shopping center, before closing for good and leaving behind empty storefronts.
