Football awards piling up for Manorville’s Goncalves at Pitt

|

Accolades keep pouring in for Manorville’s Matt Goncalves, following his stellar junior season playing offensive tackle on the University of Pittsburgh’s football team.

Earlier today, the Panthers starting left tackle was ranked among the nation’s Top 50 Offensive Tackles by the college sports podcast and YouTube show Big Game Boomer. Goncalves, who contributed to a ground attack that saw his teammate Israel Abanikanda amass over 1,400 yards rushing, was ranked No. 42 on the list.

Earlier this week, the Eastport-South Manor High School graduate received All-ACC First Team honors from Pro Football Focus. Last week, it was announced that Goncalves, who started games at right and left tackle, had earned third-team All-ACC football honors from the conference.

In 2020, Goncalves was named to the Football Writers Association of America’s Freshman All-America Freshman team.

Pittsburgh (8-4) will play UCLA (9-3) in the Tony the Tiger Sun Bowl in El Paso, Texas, on Friday, Dec. 30, at 2 p.m.
