If you’re searching for a taste of Tuscany within easy reach of MacArthur Airport and the Ronkonkoma train station, you’re in luck.
Sort of.
A sprawling Mediterranean-style mansion on Walnut Avenue in Bohemia is back on the market for just shy of $3 million.
There’s just one rather unusual backstory.
More than a decade ago, the massive estate was envisioned as the dream home of Carlos Pérez and his wife, Silvia. The couple spent seven years building it before deciding in 2022 to ditch the project and travel, according to a Newsday video report published that November. (Scroll down for the full video.)
Four years later, the house is still here, just boarded up.

Current listings date the home to 2019, although the Pérez family’s seven-year construction timeline indicates work began years earlier.
The property first hit the market in Oct. 4, 2022 for $3.29 million, according to online real estate records.
The listing at the time made it clear that the couple’s vision had not been fully realized, telling prospective buyers the 10,000-square-foot home was theirs “to complete.”
And this wasn’t your typical unfinished house.
The ambitious project included Ludowici terra-cotta roof tiles, a residential elevator, Andersen windows and doors, extensive steel framing and a solar system consisting of 70 LG panels.
“Turn this home into your dream home,” the listing informed prospective buyers.
Finding that next dreamer proved difficult.
The asking price eventually dropped to $2.5 million in 2024 and then to just under $2 million that November, the records show. The property was later taken off the market before resurfacing May 20 of this year with new listing agents and a considerably higher asking price: $2,999,000.
The current listing describes a “Mediterranean-style estate” with “extensive interior and exterior living potential.”
