The Suffolk County Medical Society and the Suffolk Academy of Medicine, along with numerous healthcare providers, hosted the Galentine’s Women’s Health Fair on Wednesday.

Held at the Long Island Aquarium in Riverhead, the fair focused on women’s healthcare, offering valuable resources and insights from medical professionals. Speakers covered topics including breast cancer, domestic violence, heart disease in women, and common misconceptions about menopause.

High school student volunteers from the Doctors of Tomorrow program, run by the Suffolk Academy of Medicine, welcomed attendees and provided firsthand information about pursuing a career in medicine.

More than 20 medical organizations participated, offering information on their services, including health insurance and specialty care in fields such as oncology and cardiology. Many of these organizations, including Stony Brook Medicine, the Suffolk County Department of Health Services, the Health and Welfare Council of Long Island, and Spine Medicine and Surgery of Long Island, are based on Long Island.

“Suffolk County medicine is something that is extremely near and dear to my heart. Being a community member in Suffolk County, being somebody who is very involved in medicine, who is very involved in women’s health, as a mom, as a wife, as a friend … everything about it [feels right],” said event organizer Nicole Gerberg, executive director of the Suffolk Academy of Medicine.
