A rolling, spooky production is on tap for this Halloween season in Suffolk County.
The Gateway Playhouse‘s popular Halloween haunted house is going to be a drive-thru experience due to COVID-19 restrictions.
To do this, the playhouse has partnered with Suffolk County to take over Southaven County Park in Yaphank for an immersive experience.
“Suffolk County parks have been a wonderful resource during this pandemic as residents seek the safety of the outdoors for activities and gatherings,” said Suffolk County Department of Parks, Recreation and conservation commissioner Jason Smagin. “With more than 60,000 acres of parkland, Suffolk County is in a unique position to help groups hold their events outside. We were happy to be able to provide The Gateway with a location for its annual event at a time when people are looking for outdoor activities to enjoy with their friends and families.”
The drive-thru experience, called “The Forgotten Road,” runs through Oct. 31.
There will be freighting sounds and sights, along with a narrator speaking to the eventgoers via their radios.
“Everyone is looking for something fun and safe to do, and we thought doing a drive-thru haunted trail would be a creative take on the traditional haunted house that also allows everyone to follow safety guidelines during the pandemic,” said Paul Allan, creative director of Gateway’s Haunted Playhouse.
Allan said each experience lasts around 30 minutes to go through trail, which is a little shorter than two miles.
Tickets, which start at $40 per vehicle, will be available online.
