German Doner Kebab, the international fast-casual chain known for its elevated take on the classic doner, has officially opened in Centereach.
Owner Syed Talha Kirmani hosted a soft opening on June 20, followed by a free kebab giveaway on June 27, and a grand opening celebration on June 28. The Centereach spot marks the brand’s first location on Long Island.
The restaurant is part of a global expansion for German Doner Kebab (GDK), which started in Germany and is headquartered in Glasgow, Scotland. With more than 170 restaurants across the U.K., Europe, and the Middle East, GDK has also been growing quickly in North America. After debuting in Canada in 2020, the chain opened its first U.S. location at the American Dream Mall in New Jersey, followed by spots in Astoria, Midtown Manhattan, Brooklyn, and Texas.
What makes it different
GDK has made a name for itself by turning the traditional doner into a gourmet street-food experience. The company developed its own spice blends, signature sauces, and distinctive waffle bread. Its meats are marinated, cooked on a rotating spit, and paired with fresh vegetables prepared daily.
The menu offers guests a choice of chicken, beef, or a mix of both, all served in a variety of wraps, sandwiches, and platters.
“Doner means ‘to turn’ in Turkish — the spit rotates so the meat roasts slowly,” the company explains. “And no, it’s not shawarma. It’s doner — with a German twist.”
German Doner Kebab is located at 1759 Middle Country Road in Centereach.
