Amityville High School senior Henry Martinez was honored for his excellence on the soccer field.
The midfielder was named to the United Soccer Coaches Association’s 2018 All-American team. Earlier this year, he accepted the award at a ceremony in Chicago.
“It is certainly an amazing accomplishment to be recognized as an All-American athlete,” said the district’s superintendent, Dr. Mary Kelly.
Over this season, Henry scored 14 goals, including the game-winner in the New York State Class A boys soccer championship against Middletown High School. The title victory is the school’s second in the last four years.
In addition to being an All-American, the soccer star was recognized as an All-County, All-State, and All-Region player as well as earning Section XI Small Schools Player of the Year.
