Spelling is as easy as ABC for this Three Village student.

Paul J Gelinas Junior High School ninth-grader Ryan Himmelsbach recently placed third in the North American Spelling Champion Challenge.

In the competition, Ryan tested his skills against 100 students from North America and China.

“Most of the words he got he didn’t know but was able to figure them out based on all his knowledge,” said Allison Himmelsbach, Ryan’s mom.

“It was also a good social connection, and he will have the opportunity in the coming years to volunteer at this bee and at the National…. [He’ll] also be tutoring some kids next year for the National.”

In addition to this challenge, Ryan has competed in the popular National Scripps Spelling Bee for the last two years.
