Great South Bay Brewery announces this year’s BayFest date

|

One of the biggest beer festivals on the South Shore has set its date for 2019.

Great South Bay Brewery announced its annual BayFest will be held on Saturday, June 1.

“It’s been a dream of ours to host an annual festival at our brewery that brings together the close-knit family of local brewers both professional and amateur for a day of great beers with great friends,” the Bay Shore brewery posted on Facebook.

The festival, which runs from 12:45 p.m. to 5:30 p.m., features around 30 breweries, which are from Long Island as well as other parts of New York State.

With every ticket purchased, patrons receive a glass where they can try all the beers available throughout the day. In addition to craft beer, there will be local vendors, food trucks, and games.

The brewery’s owner and founder, Rick Sobotka, said the first party seven years ago was for his birthday and about 50 people were invited.

“It was my birthday party and I kind of called it BayFest for the heck of it,” Sobotka told GreaterBayShore.

Then others joined in on the fun.

“We invite all of our friend breweries to come out,” said Sobotka. “It’s my favorite time of the year.”

Around 1,200 fans visit the brewery each year for the fest.
