St. Joseph’s College graduate Nicholas Esposito has joined greaterbayshore.com and greaterpatchogue.com as the news group’s first staff reporter.

Esposito, who lives in Centereach, graduated in May with a bachelor’s degree in journalism and new media studies.

He’ll be doing a mix of writing and broadcast-style reports for each of the two “Greater” community news websites, which together were viewed over 1.3 million times in 2016.

“These websites are creating a new form of niche journalism that is connecting so deeply to their communities,” Esposito said. “It’s rewarding to work for a news organization that cares about storytelling and giving people important information that can help their everyday lives.”

Esposito is also a freelance sportswriter and hosts a weekly sports radio show on LI News Radio, 103.9 FM. He’s interviewed star athletes such as former MLB pitcher Tommy John and longtime NFL fullback Tony Richardson. He’s appeared on CNN as a political commentator.

“As these sites push forward we’re going to continue to diversify and modernize the way we deliver news, and Nick has all the tools to help accelerate this process while maintaining very high standards,” said publisher Michael White, who spent 15 years in newspapers large and small before launching greaterpatchogue.com on July 1, 2015. Greaterbayshore.com launched the next year, on May 31, 2016.

Growing up on Long Island, Esposito attended Newfield High School where he played linebacker and fullback for the school’s first and only Long Island championship-winning football team in 2011.

“Overall I’m a big sports fan, love the outdoors, traveling, and love telling a good story,” said Esposito, who had been contributing content to the Greater sites as a freelancer.
