Independent Long Island news outlet expands its reach through one of the world’s most popular news platforms
Greater Long Island has joined Apple News, bringing its local reporting to one of the world’s largest digital news platforms.
The move marks another milestone for the independently owned Long Island news organization, which launched in 2015 and now attracts more than 10 million pageviews annually.
Apple News reaches approximately 125 million readers each month across the United States, United Kingdom, Canada and Australia, according to a January 2025 report by the Financial Times.
The platform is the No. 1 news app in the United States, Canada and Australia, according to Apple, which reported in January 2026 that the service features content from more than 3,000 publications worldwide.
“This is an exciting next step for Greater Long Island,” said founder and publisher Michael White. “We’ve spent more than a decade building an independent news organization dedicated to telling Long Island’s stories.
“Now, through Apple News, we have an opportunity to bring that reporting to an even wider audience. We’re thrilled to be part of it.”
Greater Long Island covers communities across Nassau and Suffolk counties, with reporting focused on local businesses, development, government, public safety, food, entertainment and the people who make Long Island unique.
The addition to Apple News gives readers another way to discover and follow that coverage, alongside Greater Long Island’s website and the GLI App, newsletters and social media channels.
