Greater Long Island video team earns fourth NY Emmy nomination

For Greater Long Island, perhaps the fourth time will be a charm.

GLI has just been nominated for a 2026 New York Emmy award in the Nostalgia News category for a 4-minute, 13-second mini-documentary entitled Return of the Ice Scooter, which was released last year.

This marks the fourth time GLI has been nominated for an Emmy.

So far, the team has returned home empty handed.

Greater Long Island will be judged against two other features in the category: Finding Elvis by WNYW-TV and That Time Hell Rained Down on Cove Neck by Newsday.

The 69th Annual New York Emmy Awards Creative Arts Ceremony and Gala is scheduled for Saturday, Oct. 10, at the New York Marriott Marquis.

About the doc

The ice scooter feature puts a spotlight on the people, history and tradition of the South Bay Scooter Club, which is based in Bellport, N.Y.

In the documentary (watch below), the Greater Long Island team joined club members on the ice at Bellport Bay as they hit speeds of up to 70 mph, powered only by wind.

“We were incredibly honored to tell the story of Long Island’s frozen thrill-seekers and shine a light on a unique winter tradition that helped shape the sport of ice scootering,” said executive producer and GLI editorial director, Nick Esposito. “Producing the documentary was reward enough; receiving a New York Emmy nomination for it was truly the icing on the cake.”

The team behind Return of the Ice Scooter also includes Jamie Stuart, reporter, Andrew Theodorakis, videographer, Frank Posillico, editor, and Michael White, producer.
