Greenport's Front Street among America's best for shopping

Front Street in Greenport has earned national recognition, ranking No. 36 on a list of the top 125 main streets for fall shopping in 2025.

It is one of only three streets from New York state to make the list published by MarketBeat, alongside Beacon’s Main Street at No. 22 and Rochester’s Park Avenue, which took the top spot.

MarketBeat, a financial media company, surveyed 3,007 Americans to gauge which main streets have the best settings for fall shopping, ranking them on atmosphere, independent retail strength and local events.

“Front Street in Greenport carries a maritime calm through autumn’s chill. Burton’s Bookstore features a carefully curated selection of fiction and nonfiction, while Aldo’s Coffee Company serves house-roasted brews beside the harbor’s still water.” — MarketBeat

The report noted how pumpkins and mums line the brick sidewalks of Front Street, “as sailboats bob in the breeze.”

“The slower season lets locals reclaim the village, wandering from art galleries to bakeries in peace,” the survery said. “On Front Street, every fall afternoon feels wrapped in salt air, good coffee, and genuine small-town charm.”

The survey highlights how America’s main streets remain hubs of community and commerce, as small-town economies continue to thrive.

Rochester’s Park Avenue is described as “a living postcard of upstate comfort,” while Beacon’s Main Street provides a mix of boutiques, coffee shops and festive seasonal events.
