Hauppauge Middle School was placed on lockdown Thursday morning after a report that a student might have a weapon, Suffolk County Police said.
Police responded to the school at 600 Townline Road about 10 a.m. initially regarding a domestic incident involving a parent and their child. While officers were on site, the school district received a separate report that a person inside the school had a gun, police said.
The school was searched, and no weapons were found. Authorities said all students and staff remained safe throughout the incident.
During the lockdown, Hauppauge Public Schools Assistant Superintendent Timothy McCarthy sent an alert to parents.
“Our middle school is currently in a lockdown out of an abundance of caution after a report that a student may have a weapon,” he wrote “Law enforcement is on site and investigating. We have no evidence at this time that this claim is true.
“All students and staff are safe, and we will provide additional information as it becomes available,” he added.
Police said the situation was resolved quickly and no arrests were made.
