Here are Nassau’s 10 best public high schools for 2025

Nassau County is home to 15 of the best 50 public high schools in New York for 2025, including Jericho and Syosset, both of which are among the nation’s top 100 high schools, Niche attests in its new Best Schools and Districts rankings.

At No. 10, Jericho is the highest-ranked public high school in Nassau County in Niche’s study. Syosset follows closely at No. 11, with Great Neck South at No. 15, Manhasset at No. 16 and Roslyn at No. 19.

Nassau’s 15 highest-rated public high schools each earned an overall grade of A+ from Niche, a top data analytics outlet for K-12 schools and colleges. Rankings are based on a comprehensive assessment of academics, college readiness, teacher quality, extracurricular opportunities, diversity and other factors.

According to Niche, their rankings are designed to provide a thorough, objective assessment of academic excellence, student experience and overall school quality.

Nassau’s top 10

Below are Niche’s 10 highest-ranked high schools in Nassau County.

1. Jericho

Jericho High School recently announced the 2024 New York State School Music Association’s (NYSSMA) All-State musicians. Ellie Yu (Wind Ensemble), Jay Choi (Symphonic Band) and Katelyn Choi (Symphonic Band) will represent the district this December at the NYSSMA Winter Conference All-State concerts (Facebook).

2. Syosset

Syosset High School students, teachers and staff teamed up to celebrate Spirit Week in October (Facebook).

Overall Niche Grade: A+

3. Great Neck South

Great Neck South High School’s Rebel Robotics Team #2638 attended the Kenneth R. Vessey Jr. Robotics Invitational hosted last month by Half Hollow Hills High School West. The Rebels were the captain of the fifth-seeded alliance in double-elimination playoffs, and beat the top-seeded alliance twice on their way to win the championship (Facebook).

Overall Niche Grade: A+

4. Wheatley School

A number of Wheatley School students were picked in September to showcase their artwork in the 2025 Gardening Calendar and Guide, following their success in the Cornell Cooperative Extension of Nassau County Student Art Competition. Freshmen Reagan Dunn, Carolina Millan, Danielle Shalomov and Grace Xuereb and juniors Audrey Rogan and Zayneb Zafar received awards for their work (Facebook).

East Williston School District
Overall Niche Grade: A+

5. Manhasset

Manhasset High School senior Grace Punzalan was been named a semifinalist for the 2025 Coca-Cola Scholars Program, moving to the next round of the selection process to possibly become a Coca-Cola Scholar and receive a $20,000 college scholarship, the school district announced this week (Facebook).

6. Roslyn

Fourteen Roslyn High School seniors this fall were named Commended Students in the 2025 National Merit Scholarship Program, the district said (Facebook).

7. Great Neck North

Great Neck North High School’s musical production of Disney’s “Beauty and the Beast” opens this weekend with performances on Friday, Nov. 15, at 7 p.m.; Saturday, Nov. 16 at 7 p.m.; and Sunday, Nov. 17 at 3 p.m. (Facebook).

8. Herricks

Herricks High School hosted a ceremony in October to celebrate the Highlander Eleven (Facebook).

9. Hewlett

Hewlett High School received an Honorable Mention at the 2024 Stage the Change Conference. The high school’s Thespian Honor Society executive board members will be recognized at a special ceremony on Friday, Nov. 15, at the Tilles Center for the Performing Arts at LIU Post (Facebook).

10. Garden City

Garden City High School held a ceremony this week to celebrate 22 student-athletes who signed letters of intent to play sports at D1 and D2 colleges and universities next year (Facebook).
