We set out to find the best dishes on Long Island, from gyros, to grandma slices, to fish and chips. And after a weeks-long public nominating process, which also involved extensive internal vetting, the voting began among the finalists.
Nearly 18,000 votes poured in, all to determine who makes what, best.
“Call it a three-factor authorization process that guarantees these winning dishes are absolute standouts on the Island,” said Greater Long Island’s publisher, Mike White. “We took our time in conceiving the Foodie Awards, because we didn’t want this to be just another tired popularity contest.”

Next up is Greater Long Island’s Ultimate Menu, featuring all the GLI Foodie Award-winning dishes. For that, Greater Long Island has partnered with Main Street Menu Club, the Island’s premier menu design and printing firm.
So look for the Ultimate Menu’s big release later this year.
Note: This ambitious project started with nearly 100 food categories, but dozens were not included in the voting because they didn’t receive enough nominations. We were trying to avoid flukes and anomalies.
