Here’s when Long Island’s first Sprouts Farmers Market is expecting to open

|

The former LA Fitness in Centereach is getting a fresh start.

As previously reported by Greater Long Island, Sprouts Farmers Market — a popular West Coast supermarket chain — is taking over the 1934 Middle Country Road space.

A company spokesperson has now confirmed the timeline.

“Sprouts is looking forward to bringing healthy, better-for-you products to New York in 2026,” David McGlinchey, chief strategy officer of Sprouts Farmers Market, told Greater Long Island.

The LA Fitness location, which closed on Jan. 28, is already being transformed into a supermarket. On Monday, workers were seen clearing out the space.

Before operating as a gym for over a decade, the building was home to Waldbaum’s, which closed in 2010 following the chain’s bankruptcy. Now, it’s returning to its supermarket roots.

Founded in 2002, Sprouts is often described as a blend between Whole Foods and Trader Joe’s. The company currently operates 430 stores across 24 states, employing around 33,000 team members, according to its website.

While Sprouts has a strong presence in states like California, Texas, Arizona, Florida, and Colorado, it has just a handful of locations in the Northeast — five in Pennsylvania (mostly near Philadelphia) and three in New Jersey. The Centereach store will be Sprouts’ first in New York.

Stay tuned to Greater Long Island for more updates on this new addition to Suffolk County.
