A Herricks woman was found dead under mysterious circumstances last Friday afternoon, her body showing apparent facial burns inside her home, Nassau County police said Thursday.
The victim, identified as 46-year-old Aleena Asif, was discovered about 3:52 p.m. after officers were called to a Larch Drive home for a well check, police said. She was pronounced dead at the scene by a Nassau County Police medic.
Authorities said the county’s medical examiner had determined that Asif died from asphyxiation caused by an unknown chemical substance, and ruled the death a criminal homicide. Police said further testing is being conducted as the investigation continues.
Anyone with information about the case is asked to contact Nassau County Crime Stoppers at 1.800.244.TIPS or call 911. Callers can remain anonymous.
