Horse rescued from backyard pool in Bohemia

|

A rescue team with the Bohemia Fire Department saved a horse from an in ground pool over the weekend.

Some time before 8 a.m. on Saturday, the black horse had fallen into the pool and had become entangled in the pool’s cover in the back yard of a residence on Pond Avenue.

Assistant Chief Brian Olsen arrived on scene and coordinated efforts with Suffolk County Police’s emergency services unit and 5th Precinct officers. The rescuers worked together to move the horse to the shallow end of the pool and freed her from the cover.

After taking a few moments to gather herself, the mare was guided to the pool steps and with a little help managed to safely trot out of the water. It was unclear how the horse had gained access to the back yard.
