Hummus Fit expands meal prep company with spot inside Deer Park gym

|

Fitness fanatics in the Deer Park area can now add nutritious, Meditteranean food options to their workout regime and indulge in tasty snacks and meals guilt-free.

Hummus Fit — part of the healthy to-go chain Hummus Meditteranean — opened its second location at 41 Mercedes Way in Deer Park last month. The other is in Ronkonkoma.

Hummus Meditteranean is an assembly-style restaurant with two other locations, in Selden and Holbrook.

The Selden and Holbrook locations allow patrons to build their own fresh Meditteranean bowls and sandwiches, while the Hummus Fit spots offer more fitness-focused, meal preparation services.

Hummus Fit in Ronkonkoma is where all the meals are made and packaged.

Owner Tony Mavruk said the Pro-Fit Deer Park gym next door to the new location sold Hummus Meditteranean products for four years.

When the pandemic hit and gyms shut down, the owner of the fitness club gave Mavruk the idea to transform the other side of the gym into a Hummus Fit.

“We have a really great fanbase around there, and people love the food,” Mavruk said. “We needed a western location so our customers didn’t have to drive all the way out to our Holbrook location.”

Hummus Fit is all about making eating healthy food fun, Mavruk told GreaterBabylon. They provide fresh, clean meal plans that are designed for customers to stay on track and achieve fitness success.

“The problem with a lot of the healthy foods is that people will start eating healthy and then give up a couple of weeks or so because they’re no fun,” he said. “A lot of people can’t come up with creative ideas, they’re just used to their chicken and rice or low-carb salad stuff, so we make it fun, easy, and affordable while keeping it restaurant quality.”

The menu consists of pre-packaged meals such as chipotle chicken rice bowls, Philly-style tacos, “Dunkaroo”-style overnight oats, a special protein-packed Nutella (called “Fit-tella”), and the most popular healthy snack item, Liana’s Buffin’ Muffins.

They sell around 1,000 of the protein muffins a week.

Mavruk runs the business with his wife, Liana. They’re both longtime gym-goers and health enthusiasts.

Tony has been in the fitness industry on Long Island for around 15 years and Liana is a nutritionist and former competitive bodybuilder.

The couple hopes to expand further west on the island to provide even more communities with healthy meal prep options.

“Instead of going into your cabinet and raiding your pantry, you have something healthier and better on your side that can eat right away,” Mavruk said.
