A 26-year-old Huntington man was arrested Tuesday after a roadside confrontation escalated into a stabbing that seriously injured another driver, according to Suffolk County police.
The incident unfolded about 3:42 p.m. on West Neck Road near Old Hickory Lane in Huntington, when a 60-year-old Huntington man driving a 2017 Mercedes Sprinter van was struck by a Jeep, police said. The Jeep’s driver — identified by police as Jayson Heitner — then approached the van with a boxcutter, sparking a physical struggle, cops said.
The victim, who police did not identify, suffered multiple slash wounds to his face and body, as well as bite injuries to several fingers, during the altercation, authorities said. He was taken to a local hospital with serious but non-life-threatening injuries.
Heitner was arrested and charged with second-degree assault. He was jailed overnight at the Third Precinct ahead of an arraignment scheduled for Nov. 19 at First District Court in Central Islip.
Detectives are asking anyone with information about the incident to call the Second Squad at 631.854.8252.
