Making inmates more employable while cleaning areas throughout Babylon Town — that’s whats been happening since 2012.
In a team effort, the Babylon Beautification Program has continued to work with the Sheriff Vocational Training Program to provide low-security inmates job training by allowing them to clean up litter and debris in the local areas.
Suffolk County Sheriff Errol Toulon says the partnership amounts to a real win-win.
“I am pleased to partner with the Town of Babylon on this beautification initiative,” he said. “It gives our inmates the opportunity to give back, and our taxpayers receive a valuable service.”
One of the spots this year that needed servicing was around the New York State Parks Department area between Hilltop Avenue and Lakeway Avenue in North Babylon.
And on April 20, elected officials and civic associations from New York State and the Town of Babylon showed appreciation for the crew’s 4-day clean up at Belmont Lake by bringing down donuts and coffee.
