TJ Maxx has moved in Riverhead.
The Massachusetts-based discount retailer relocated its Riverhead store to 1791 Old Country Road on Oct. 30, moving from its previous location on Route 58 at Roanoke Plaza. The new TJ Maxx fills the space left vacant by Christmas Tree Shops.
Christmas Tree Shops closed last summer after filing for Chapter 11 bankruptcy, ultimately shutting down all its stores across 16 states, including its two Long Island locations: one in Riverhead and another at Tanger Outlets in Deer Park. Prior to the bankruptcy a third location was scheduled to open at Sayville Plaza in Bohemia but it never came to fruition.
TJ Maxx’s new 34,000-square-foot store is one of the largest spaces in the 1751-1791 Old Country Road shopping center, which was built in 2013. It joins other tenants like Dick’s Sporting Goods, Aldi, Buffalo Wild Wings, Five Below, and Starbucks. The new TJ Maxx location is also across the street from its sister stores, HomeGoods, Homesense and Marshalls.
According to RiverheadLOCAL, Town Planner Heather Trojanowski said she is unaware of any new tenants for TJ Maxx’s former location.
