The owner of the Main Street landmark Islip Cleaners and Tailors is doing his part to help contain the spread of coronavirus in area nursing homes.
Islip Cleaners owner Danny Tran, along with Mareia Vargas, are sewing masks in colors inspired by Easter eggs, according to the town.
The masks are being donated to local nursing homes, and are for sale to customers to the cleaners, which is an open and deemed-essential service.
Tran told Town of Islip officials he donated 100 masks to Our Lady of Consolation Nursing and Rehabilitative Care Center in West Islip this past week.
“I just don’t want to sit back and do nothing,” he said, though he added that, with many retail businesses closed, the challenge is finding elastic to complete the masks.
“Islip Cleaners and Tailors is another example of our wonderful business community banding together to help those in need,” Islip Supervisor Angie Carpenter said in a statement.
