Islip Town ruling opens the door for a new Starbucks in West Sayville

|

Starbucks looks like a go for West Sayville.

Months after pulling out of downtown Sayville, the coffee giant received the go ahead Thursday to drop anchor in West Sayville. The Islip Town Board voted 4-1 in favor of a zoning change that paves the way for a Starbucks with a drive-through at 90 Montauk Highway, the site of a former Chase Bank.

With the town’s blessing, the site is now zoned as “Business 3 District,” which permits a drive-through fast food restaurant.

Before its vote, the town stipulated that the developer of the property must put up signage that restricts motorists from making a left turn onto Montauk Highway from the parking lot.

Below is a video of the April 28 town board meeting during which the Starbucks zoning change was approved. The 4-1 vote in favor of the zoning change was approved within the first eight minutes of the board’s meeting.

The town’s planning department reported that the parking lot will have 25 parking spots and room for 23 vehicles to queue in line for the drive-through.

The Starbucks at 59 Main St. in the heart of downtown Sayville closed late last year. Bean Coffee House announced this month that it had leased the space and would be opening its fifth location there.
