Hawthorne Global Aviation Services this week increased its leasable space at Long Island Airport by nearly 50 percent, opening a new 31,800-square-foot hangar and office facility.
The addition brings Hawthorne’s commitment to MacArthur Airport to over 100,000 square feet of leasable space, and will enhance their service to aviation customers on Long Island. It’s the first new hangar at the airport in over a decade.
“The new hangar space is a beautiful and welcoming showcase facility for Long Island and for visitors coming to Long Island,” Islip Town Supervisor Angie Carpenter said. “The facility represents the town’s vision for continuing enhancements to our fixed base operators and general aviation space at MacArthur Airport.”
Hawthorne, providing general aviation services in 1932, has operated at MacArthur Airport for over eight years. The company began work on the new facility in spring 2019.
The hangar was completed in September, before the airport on Wednesday formally celebrated its opening today with a ribbon cutting ceremony.
“Along with our commitment to developing commercial aviation service and our passenger terminal, we also understand and appreciate the importance of our general aviation community,” Airport Commissioner Shelley LaRose-Arken said.
The new hangar features the following amenities and services:
- Professional concierge services; lodging, catering and ground transportation.
- Courtesy shuttle, crew and rental car availability.
- Spacious and comfortable passenger and pilot lounge.
- U.S. Customs Services (pre-notice required).
- Hawthorne said it complies with NATA Safety First guidelines for cleaning and sanitizing to keep its employees and customers safe during COVID-19.
“We are delighted to continue our partnership with MacArthur Airport and the Town of Islip with these expanded and enhanced facilities,” Hawthorne President and CEO Bryon Burbage said. “This enables Hawthorne to maintain the exceptional service that our customers have come to expect.”
MacArthur offers flights on three major U.S. domestic air carriers: American Airlines, Frontier Airlines and Southwest Airlines. In total the carriers provide service to 11 destinations, while connecting to hundreds of others worldwide. The airport serves about 1.6 million people, annually.
