It’s Christmastime at PopUp Speakeasy Selfie Studio and we paid a visit

PopUp Speakeasy Christmas

They’ve gone all-in on Christmastime at PopUp Speakeasy Selfie Studio in Ronkonkoma. And Greater Long Island was invited to check it out.

We left with dozens of great photos (scroll down for more).

Lindenhurst resident Catherine Ovejas and her business partner, Jose Rivera, opened the spot early this year, transforming their old storage space at 1860 Pond Road into an interactive photo experience, a first for Long Island.

It’s also their first Christmas at the studio and Ovejas and Rivera overlooked no details in transforming the space for holiday snapshots.

All the props, such as those for the 1940s-style “A Christmas Story” kitchen, were handpicked by Rivera and Ovejas. Most of the items there are vintage finds — repurposed by Rivera himself.

“We don’t think of selfies as a vanity thing,” says Ovejas. “For us it’s about creativity, self-expression, sharing memories — it’s something you can really categorize under art.”

New holiday sets include Glam Christmas and Snowball Fight, with most of the existing sets also getting decorated for the season, including their Instagram hallmark set: the bright pink VW bus.

There are ring-lights with cell phone stands for client use. Guests can even bring their own additional props and extra clothing for wardrobe changes.
