Jack Coan tosses first NFL touchdown in Colts’ pre-season tilt with Detroit

|

Sayville’s own Jack Coan completed a clutch touchdown pass in the fourth quarter of the Indianapolis Colts’ narrow pre-season loss to Detroit on Saturday.

With just 38 seconds remaining, the Notre Dame alum tossed “a perfect throw” to fellow rookie Samson Nacua out of Brigham Young to bring the Colts within one point, 27-26, of tying the Lions in Indianapolis. The Colts failed on the two-point conversion attempt, securing the victory for Detroit.

Playing for much of the fourth quarter, Coan completed 7 of 11 passes for 83 yards. The effort was good enough for a 116.9 quarterback rating.

Coan signed in the spring with the Colts as an undrafted free agent. The Sayville High School 2017 graduate is hoping his pre-season performance can land him a spot on Indianapolis’ roster.

Coan made his NFL debut last week against the Buffalo Bills. He spent four seasons, including one injured and out of the lineup, with Wisconsin before transferring to Notre Dame in 2021 as a graduate student.

At times showing off a flare for the dramatic in comeback victories for the Irish, he helped lead the team to an 11-2 record and an appearance in the Fiesta Bowl, where he tossed for a Fiesta Bowl-record of 509 yards.
