Job Lot donates $31,000 worth of food and coats to Bellport’s Lighthouse Mission

Job Lot retail chain donated 500 winter coats and over 25,000 pounds of food to Lighthouse Mission in Bellport last week.

The truck load of essentials included Food4Vets meals, which provide a week of shelf-stable food for a family of four. The coats were donated by the retailer’s customers through its “Buy-Give-Get” program.

The estimated retail value of the haul is $31,000, according to an Ocean State Job Lot press release this week.

“Ocean State Job Lot is proud to support Lighthouse Mission and its goal to bring hope and provide relief to families in need across Long Island,” David Sarlitto, executive director of the Ocean State Job Lot Charitable Foundation, said in the release. “We hope this donation will provide nourishment and warmth during this critical time of need for so many.”

“We’ve been working with them for a few years,” Michael Caiazzo, one of Lighthouse Mission’s pastors, said in a telephone interview. “They’ve always been a very generous company.”

Lighthouse Mission is one of Long Island’s most active mobile food pantries, with 10 outreaches across Suffolk County. Since it was founded in 1992, the faith-forward organization has served over 109,000 people and distributed more than 1 million pounds of food, according to its website.

Ocean State Job Lot is a 45-year-old privately held discount retail chain based in Rhode Island, with 147 stores across the New England states, New York, New Jersey and Pennsylvania and approximately 5,600 employees.

Its stores offer an array of household goods, apparel, pet supplies, seasonal products and kitchen pantry staples.

“Forbes” named the company “Best Employer” four times. Its charitable foundation supports causes that benefit the homeless, veterans and military families, animals, children, the arts and education.
