Milwaukee Brewers promote Patchogue-Medford’s Josh Knoth to Double-A

Nineteen months ago, Josh Knoth couldn’t throw a baseball. On Thursday, the Milwaukee Brewers promoted him to Double-A.

The Patchogue-Medford grad and 2023 first-round pick is now a Biloxi Shucker. The Shuckers are Milwaukee’s Double-A affiliate — two stops from The Show.

Knoth, the organization’s No. 9 overall prospect and its third-ranked pitching prospect, joins a Biloxi roster that includes baseball’s No. 1 overall prospect, Jesus Made.

It was hardly a given that Knoth would get to Mississippi. The right-handed hurler blew out his elbow two years ago, mid-season with Single-A Carolina. In January 2025, he went under the knife for Tommy John surgery, torching his entire 2025.

Knoth rehabbed at the Brewers’ spring training complex, working back through distance throwing, bullpens and live at-bats before returning to a game this May.

In June, he earned the organization’s minor-league Pitcher of the Month award. This season with High-A Wisconsin, Knoth was 5-3 with a 4.34 ERA over 17 starts.

Following Knoth closely has been his varsity high school coach, Patchogue-Medford’s Anthony Frascogna.

“He’s had a great season. He’s overcome a minor setback and he’s back ahead of schedule,” said Frascogna, who texts and chats with his former player regularly. “So proud of him. Looking for flights to Biloxi!”

Frascogna also anticipates taking a trip to Nashville in the near future. After all, the Nashville Sounds are the Triple-A affiliate of the Milwaukee Brewers – and the likely next step in Knoth’s progression.

Following the draft in June 2023, Knoth signed with Milwaukee for $2 million as a 17-year-old. At Pat-Med he tossed perfect games in back-to-back seasons.
