JT’s on the Bay opens Friday for summer in Blue Point

|

There was a time when JT’s on the Bay owner Justin Tempelman would post notices around Blue Point that his waterfront restaurant had opened for the season.

“Now, the minute that tent goes up, everybody in the neighborhood knows we’re open,” said Tempelman, who’s entering his 11th season on the water.

Well, the tent is up.

JT’s opens at 4 p.m. Friday and will be open on weekends until Memorial Day, after which JT’s punches the hours up to seven days a week for lunch and dinner.

JT’s is located at 1 Curtis Road, in the Blue Point Marina, and features an indoor bar and dining area with outdoor dining under the tent.

New for 2017 is a larger tap system with 16 beers on tap, twice more than last year’s eight.

“We started out with three beers in 2007,” said Tempelman, who also owns sister restaurant JT’s CafĂ© on Montauk Highway in Blue Point.

JT’s will also be offering some new menu items that’s being kept under wraps until Friday. The mainstays won’t be touched, such as the lobster mac and cheese featured in September by Restaurant Hunter on Fios1 News.

“I say, it’s the neighborhood’s clubhouse,” Tempelman said when asked to describe the vibe for any newcomers. “Summer represents JT’s on the bay to a lot of people. I live and operate two businesses in the greatest neighborhood on Long Island, as far as I’m concerned.”
