My name is Jackie Campbell. I’m 72 years old. I have been diagnosed with lung cancer. I’m a widow of a veteran and don’t have family here. I am all alone. In October of 2016, my doctor told me that my cancer had gotten worse so I went to the hospital to ask for help and get the chemo treatment to save my life. I was turned down by two major hospitals because I didn’t have good enough health insurance.
I felt scared and terrified. I turned to God and asked him to send an angel to help me. I prayed that I wished to get well, so that I could help others with cancer.
Later, St. Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital asked me for donations but most of my money had been spent on my own cancer treatment.
I could not stand by and do nothing, so I came up with an idea to raise funds for St. Jude’s. I sold soda and water for $1 each at Jacqueline’s Gift Shoppe in Bay Shore. So far, I raised over $200 for St. Jude’s hospital and I hope to continue to raise more funds to help fight cancer.
I believe that together, we can save lives.
I thank every man and woman in Bay Shore for their donation and also each child who asked their moms and dads for money to help other children with cancer. I also thank Elizabeth, whom I just met; she came back a second time to visit me and handed me an envelope with $50. She said that the money was to help pay for my bills, but I donated the money to St. Jude’s.
I also thank another who I just met; she also has cancer but she wanted to help me. She gave me so much support and came back to give me an envelope with $200 which she said was from her mom who I’ve never met. I was so surprised and shocked that it came from someone I had not yet met. I thank both of them for their kindness and compassion. You gave me hope and I believe that mom and her daughter are angels.
I donated all the money to St. Jude’s hospital to help children with cancer.
The grand total is $475. I thank you for your support. God bless all of you.
