Lindenhurst family takes over Uncle Louie G’s on Montauk Highway

|

Lindenhurst’s Italian ice and ice cream shop Uncle Louie G’s changed hands earlier this year.

The new operators are Michael and Nora Dorso, a husband and wife team who’s lived in the neighborhood for 25-plus years.

Michael, a former Toys ‘R Us employee, and Nora, a teacher at Brentwood High School, decided to purchase their first business together after years of frequenting the frozen treat shop.

“We live right down the block,” said Michael. “It is a great community with the best neighbors.”

Since taking over, the Dorsos remodeled the inside of the location at 198 East Montauk Highway with fresh paint and new decorations. They also transitioned the business from being opened seasonally to year-round.

“We wanted to make it a neighborhood place where people can stop by any time of year,” said Michael, who grew up in East Meadow.

The menu also got bigger too.

In addition to offering 33 ice cream flavors and 48 Italian ice options, the Lindenhurst family opened up the menu to include cakes, ice cream sandwiches, and coffee.

They now sell affogato, an Italian-dessert where espresso is mixed with a scoop of ice cream.

And for those that like variety, Uncle Louie G’s of Lindenhurst has the perfect remedy by offering flights of ice cream.

“You can get four or eight mini cones, and pick whatever flavor you like,” said Nora. “It has been a big hit.”

The Dorsos, who have never worked with ice cream before, are enjoying their dessert venture thus far.

“Everyone has been great and I am excited I can spend more time with my family now,” said Michael, whose four children help work at their store.
