Lindenhurst man on probation caught with cache of weapons at home, cops say

A Lindenhurst man already on probation now faces a long list of weapons charges after probation officers found dozens of illegal weapons inside his home during a court-ordered search Friday, police said.

Officers conducting a compliance check inside a home on E. Granada Avenueat first spotted brass knuckles and an expandable baton inside the home of Alvert Tusa, 60, cops said.

First Squad detectives then conducted a further search and recovered eight handguns, 17 long guns, 16 switchblades and two high-capacity magazines.

Tusa, who is on probation for criminal contempt, faces the following charges:

  • Eight counts of Criminal Possession of a Firearm
  • One count of Criminal Possession of an Assault Weapon
  • 43 counts of Criminal Possession of a Weapon–Prior Conviction, Third-Degree
  • Two counts of Criminal Possession of a Weapon, Third Degree
  • One count of Criminal Contempt, Second Degree

Police said Tusa was held in jail overnight Friday at the Third Precinct ahead of his arraignment Saturday in First District Court in Central Islip.
