Local restaurants raffling off ’30 Days of Eating in Bay Shore’

|

About two dozen downtown and waterfront restaurants in Bay Shore will be raffling off a leather-bound book of gift cards this June.

The book will be one lucky recipient’s ticket to “Eating for 30 days in Bay Shore,” worth at least $1,500.

We’re talking consecutive nights out at Verde Kitchen + Cocktails, Local Burger Co., Nicky’s on the Bay, and on and on. (Full list below.)

The raffle is being run by the Chamber of Commerce of Greater Bay Shore’s newly formed Bay Shore Restaurant Committee, which meets regularly.

“The committee gives all the restaurants the opportunity to get together and promote Bay Shore as a group, and expose people to all the different restaurants and dining options that we have,” said Mike McElwee, a chamber VP who also co-owns Local Burger, T.J. Finley’s and the Penny Pub on Main Street.

The winner will be chosen at 4 p.m. on June 11 during the Bay Shore Arts Festival by the Bay. Raffle tickets are $20 each and go on sale the week of April 24 at all participating restaurants and eateries. Tickets will also be sold at a special booth during the Arts Festival.

The money is being raised for the Bay Shore Restaurant Committee’s plans to present the downtown’s first-ever summer dining, arts and entertainment series on select Wednesday nights in July and August.  The series will be called Alive by the Bay. (Check back at GreaterBayShore for more on that.)

McElwee credited Anthony Tartaglia of Verde with putting the chamber’s first restaurant committee together this past winter.

Tartaglia described the committee is an important tool for the area’s growing number of restaurants to help one another, and be on the same page when it comes time to planning larger events that benefit the wider community.

“We brainstorm, plan events, and talk to one another about different ideas we have to help our business and Bay Shore as a community,” he said. “There’s always more to learn from other professionals in our industry so it’s good to have like-minded people we can meet with on a steady basis to keep improving our restaurants and our downtown.”

The restaurants are also all working closely to make the inaugural Alive by the Bay series a success.

“We have some big events coming up this summer and we have to go over all the details to make it work,” Tartaglia said. “Bay Shore has been turning into a great food scene with awesome restaurants and bars. The town is growing quickly with more businesses and more residents so we have to stay relevant to what’s going on around us.”

The list of participating restaurants and eateries appears below, and each are chipping in $50 worth of gift cards for the book.

Gift baskets for runners-up will also be awarded the day of the Arts Festival.
