Long Beach High School on lockdown amid possible gun threat

|

Long Beach High School is under lockdown Wednesday morning after reports of a possible subject with a gun on campus.

Nassau County police responded to the school at 7:48 a.m., and the situation remains ongoing, police told Greater Long Island.

Authorities said the lockdown is still in effect, and no injuries have been reported. Police have not confirmed any arrests at this time, and details about the suspect have not been released.

Long Beach Schools Superintendent Jennifer Gallagher confirmed in a letter to the community posted by parents on Facebook that the high school went into lockdown this morning after the school received a phone threat.

“Everyone is safe at the high school … once the police finish the search shortly, students will be allowed to access their cell phones and contact their families,” she wrote.

Gallagher added that police do not believe there is any risk to the district’s elementary or middle schools.

“If the police advise otherwise, we will notify you immediately,” Gallagher wrote, noting that “there will be a police presence at the high school throughout the day.”

Officials are continuing to secure the campus as they investigate the potential threat, authorities said.

Long Beach school district officials could not be reached for comment.
