West Babylon man among two charged in Long Island child sex sting, state cops say

State troopers say the two men separately set up sex encounters with individuals they believed were minors

Two men — one from West Babylon and one from Massachusetts — face charges for trying to arrange in-person meetings with children for sex, state police announced this week.

The arrests stemmed from a sting spearheaded by the New York State Police Troop L Computer Crime Unit. Investigators went undercover on online platforms, posing as minors to identify adults looking to communicate with children to sexually exploit them, state police said.

Edwin Antonio Sabillon Jr., 24, of West Babylon was charged with second-degree attempted rape, attempted endangering the welfare of a child, and attempted first-degree disseminating indecent material to a minor.

Anik Conley-Das, 36, of Norwood, Massachusetts, faces the same three charges. The two suspects were arraigned in Suffolk First District Court in Central Islip late last week.

State Police did not release additional details on how the two men were identified or apprehended, citing the ongoing nature of the investigation.

Troop L is asking anyone with information about either suspect — or anyone who believes they or someone they know may have been a victim — to call state police Troop L Headquarters at 631.756.3300.

“The New York State Police remain committed to identifying individuals who exploit children online, protecting vulnerable victims and holding offenders accountable,” the agency said in a statement.
