Transformed by a deep love for horses, Elliot Rosenberg traded his career as a commodities broker in New York to move to Costa Rica, where he lived in horse country for seven years.
There, his passion for animals grew and shaped his career in more ways than one.
His love for dogs brought him back to Long Island.
It was in Central America where Elliot Rosenberg, the owner and founder of the rapidly growing K9 Mania Dog Training operation on Long Island, first learned about dogs, their behaviors, and the amazing impact one well-trained dog can make on their family.
“That’s where I fell in love with the process,” he told Greater Long Island.
And he wanted to share that knowledge, and improve upon it. So, upon his return to New York, Rosenberg took a job at PetSmart in Glen Cove and got certified. A new chapter of his life was starting.
Things were going great.
Then, the pandemic shut the place down. But COVID-19 proved to be a blessing in disguise for Rosenberg as one client held onto his phone number for in-home training. Soon, he was training dogs regularly.
Word of mouth spread.
Eventually, business was booming, and things got so overwhelming for Rosenberg with referrals that he had to hire a second trainer to help.
Of course, he had to train the trainer in the methods and philosophies people expected from Rosenberg and his new business.
Now those processes have been applied to over a dozen trainers at Rosenberg’s massive and highly rated board-and-train operation in Deer Park, which he opened in 2022. There, he and his team of trainers are helping dozens of dogs — all day, every day — at 820 Grand Boulevard near Tanger Outlets.
Driven by a very simple yet powerful belief, every dog and their family only deserve the best. Rosenberg preaches the importance of staying ahead with the latest techniques and methods, adding, “The trainers are good, but continuing education is key.”
But it doesn’t stop there. K9 Mania’s top-rated trainers are always learning to meet the needs of dogs and owners better.
Rosenberg says it best: “We learn from every dog and every client.”
All about the owners
Training the client, or dog owner, is crucial to K9 Mania’s methodology.
“We’re only with the dog for 3 to 5 weeks,” Rosenberg often says. “The owners are with them for the rest of their lives. The good part is we have different personalities with the trainers, and we’ll know who will mesh better with which type of owner.”
“And we’re very patient” with the owners, he added.
At K9 Mania Dog Training, the owners are first matched with trainers who will suit them best throughout the process for the dog, with the goal of remedying any issues, such as:
- Human aggression (growling, lunging, and barking at people)
- Leash reactivity
- Territorial behaviors
- Food and/or resource guarding
- Anxiety / separation anxiety
- Fear-based behaviors
- Obedience training
- Puppy training
- Off leash obedience
But the ultimate goal is sustaining those remedies.
And that happens at home. “What we’re doing is setting the household up for success. The owners that come in here and actually put in the work,” Rosenberg said.
“And after they’re finished and leave us, the dog will continue to get better.”
