|

Three Long Island home health care agencies earned recognition as “high performing” in U.S. News & World Report’s first-ever official evaluation of the in-home health care providers.

Centerwell Home Health of Hauppauge earned the highest Long Island score, receiving a 4.5 out of 5. The agency rated exceedingly high in Timely Start of Care, Improved Bathing Skills, Improved Walking and Mobility, and Professionalism.

VNS & Hospice of Suffolk CHHA, based in Northport, garnered a 4.25 overall rating in U.S. News analysis, scoring especially high in Timely Start of Care, Improved Breathing, Professionalism and Ability to Get Out of Bed.

Centerwell Home Health of Westbury also earned a 4.25, with top marks in Timely Start of Care, Improved Bathing, Improved Walking and Movement, and Communication.

Lowest Long Island score

On the lower end for Long Island, Gurwin Certified Home Health Agency in Commack scored 2.5 out of 5, though it still qualified for an “as expected” rating.

U.S. News evaluated 12,157 Medicare-certified home health agencies using 16 quality measures. Only 10 percent earned the “high performing” designation, while 1,319 agencies exceeded expectations in care quality and patient experience. Another 5,288 met U.S. News standards for care and patient satisfaction.

The Best Home Health ratings focus on two key aspects: Quality of Care, which measures how well agencies help patients achieve better health outcomes and avoid complications, and Patient Experience, evaluated through a national survey of patients and family members.
