Long Island native behind Rocco’s Tacos brings restaurant brand back home

|

Rocco’s Tacos & Tequila Bar has opened its New York flagship location at Walt Whitman Shops, marking a return to Long Island for founder Rocco Mangel, according to an announcement.

It’s also the company’s 10th spot, with the other nine located in Florida.

The Huntington Rocco’s, located at 160 Walt Whitman Road, comes as part of a long-term partnership with Simon Property Group, the announcement reads.

“Coming back to where it all began is incredibly special to me,” Mangel said in the announcement. “Long Island is where I grew up, went to high school, and formed so many of the memories that shaped who I am. Opening a Rocco’s here isn’t just about bringing great tacos and guac to New York — it’s about coming home and giving life and energy to my 18-year-old brand, sharing the energy and culture with the community that helped raise me.”

Under the culinary direction of chef and partner Lisabet Summa, the restaurant offers a menu focused on Mexican cuisine, served in a lively, relaxed setting, according to the announcement.

The space features colorful décor inspired by Mexico City and New York architecture, along with a bar program, happy hour offerings, all-you-can-drink weekend brunch, and seasonally refreshed menus.

The 5,500-square-foot restaurant includes approximately 200 seats, with both indoor dining and an all-season outdoor patio.

It is open seven days a week for lunch, dinner, happy hour and weekend brunch, the announcement reads.
