We are back.
Those are the words of New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo on Monday as he discussed the state of the virus in his daily COVID-19 briefing.
As of Sunday, the entire Empire State saw 702 new cases (a 1.2% increase), which prompted Cuomo to allow New York City to enter Phase 1 of his New York Forward plan on Monday. Westchester, Rockland and Hudson Valley will move forward to Phase 2 tomorrow, June 9, while Long Island’s Nassau and Suffolk Counties are on track for Phase 2 for this Wednesday.
Phase 2 includes the following businesses but with restrictions:
- Professional Services (including hair salons and barbershops)
- Outdoor dining
- Retail
- Administrative Support
- Real Estate / Rental & Leasing

Monday, June 8, marks 100 days since the first documented case of the novel coronavirus in New York.
“We went from the worst situation in the nation… to not only flattening the curve but bending the curve,” said Cuomo at his briefing.
Cuomo also said outdoor, socially-distant graduations of up to 150 people can begin on June 26, barring significant changes to the outbreak.
