Long Island’s Andre Cisco signs deal with New York Jets

|

Andre Cisco is coming home.

The Long Island native, who starred at St. Anthony’s High School, has signed a one-year, $10 million deal with his hometown team — the New York Jets.

MetLife Stadium, about 30 miles from his hometown of Valley Stream, is now the new office for the NFL safety. Cisco was drafted in the third round by the Jacksonville Jaguars in 2021 and has played with the team for the past four seasons.

Born in Queens, Cisco had an impressive college career at Syracuse, earning accolades such as ACC Defensive Rookie of the Year (2018), First-Team All-ACC (2018), and Second-Team All-ACC (2019). His standout performances led to his selection in the third round of the 2021 NFL Draft.

“5th grade me would be running through a wall right now!!!! ECSTATIC about what’s to come. God’s grace simply never fails!” Cisco wrote on X (formerly Twitter) after the signing was announced.

In Jacksonville, he quickly became a key starter and difference-maker on defense, recording 229 total tackles, eight interceptions, and 24 pass deflections in 63 games. His highlight reel includes a spectacular 59-yard interception return for a touchdown against Philadelphia Eagles quarterback Jalen Hurts — who later led his team to a Super Bowl victory this past season. Check out the play below.

Cisco recently returned to Long Island, where he hosted a free youth camp at Valley Stream Central High School last summer.

“Returning to Long Island and giving back to the community that shaped me is something I’ve always dreamed of,” Cisco told Greater Long Island ahead of the camp. “I’m excited to meet all the young athletes and share my experiences and love for the game with them.”

Cisco joins Jeremy Ruckert as the second Long Islander on the current New York Jets roster. Ruckert, a tight end from Lindenhurst, was picked by the Jets in the 2022 NFL Draft.
