Diffuser, the Long Island that took the alternative rock scene by storm in the early 2000s with songs featured on the soundtracks of “Freaky Friday” and “Mission: Impossible 2,” returns to the stage next month for the first time in years.
The band will reunite on Saturday, Sept. 7, for a special concert at Mulcahy’s pub and concert hall in Wantagh to celebrate the 25th anniversary of their debut album, “Injury Loves Melody.” Proceeds from the show will support two local Long Island autism charities: The Nicholas Center and Families For Inclusion.
Originally formed in 1994 under the name Flu Thirteen, the band includes vocalist Tomas Costanza from Massapequa; drummer Billy Alemaghides, a Bethpage native; guitarist Anthony Cangelosi; and bassist Lawrence Sullivan. They all maintain deep roots to Long Island’s music scene.
The band rose to prominence in 2001 after changing its name and inking a two-album deal with Hollywood Records. Their debut LP featured the Top 20 Billboard hit “Karma,” which was included on the “Mission: Impossible 2” soundtrack (scroll down to listen). Their second studio album, “Making the Grade,” featured the songs “I Wonder” and “Get It On,” both of which are heard in the film, “Freaky Friday.”
Local artists Madisonprep and Wired will also perform during the benefit concert. Sponsored by WBAB and Waldner’s Business Environments, the event will be hosted by comedian Graham Kay and will include surprise guests, luxury items for raffle, and a live auction by John Theissen and the John Theissen Children’s Foundation, organizers said.
