Gleason is survived by his wife and three kids, all under 7 years old
The Long Island lacrosse community is mourning the loss of one of its own following the death of Siena College men’s lacrosse head coach and Wading River native Liam Gleason.
The 41-year-old passed away Wednesday after a fall at his house on Sunday that left him with a severe head injury.
“It’s just heartbreaking, devastating,” Tim Radomski, former Massapequa lacrosse coach, told Greater Long Island. Tim’s son Patrick is a junior on the Siena lacrosse team.
In his final hours, Gleason was honored through an “Honor Walk” at the hospital, where staff, players, and loved ones lined the hallway as he was taken for organ donation — a gesture reflecting the generosity he embodied throughout his career.
“Patrick told me it was a very very tough day at school,” said Tim. “He loved Coach Gleason.”
Gleason began his coaching career at Siena as an assistant, before heading to his alma mater, the University at Albany in a similar role. He then returned to Siena in 2018 as head coach.
His leadership helped transform the program, culminating in a milestone 2025 season that saw the Saints win their first MAAC title in 11 years and earn an NCAA Tournament berth. He was named ECAC Division I Coach of the Year.
“All you need to do is look at all the smiles on everyone’s faces to know how much love was with Coach, his family and all the team,” said Tim. “It’s just heartbreaking.”
Gleason is survived by his wife Jaclyn, and three young kids, all under 7 years old.
A GoFundMe effort has been set up in his honor, which had raised more than $500,000 as of Wednesday night.
