Lufker Airport in East Moriches on the market for $8M

|
Lufker Airport

Lufker Airport, a privately owned, 30-acre public-use airport in East Moriches, is for sale for $7,999,999.

Formerly a farm used for growing cabbages and melons up until the 1940s, the family-owned airstrip, located at 115 Montauk Highway at the gateway to the Hamptons, has been most recently used by banner towing planes and for flight instruction.

The property, which came to market March 27, has been owned by the Lufker family since 1984. Listing agent Laura Riportella of Douglas Elliman said it’s being sold now because Dorothy Lufker would like to spend more time with her children and grandchildren following the passing of her husband, Louis.

In the past, the airport was frequented by John F. Kennedy Jr., who flew his own plane there when visiting the Hamptons; actor Cliff Robertson, who was a guest in the 1970s; and former Gov. George Pataki, who used the strip when traveling out east by state helicopter.

Though not currently in use, the airstrip has a 2,300-foot turf runway and shares a taxiway with Spadaro Airport. The property could be used for a variety of purposes.
